+ Mike Quinn is a great guy

Daria episode reviewer emeritus, Mike Quinn, ended his career on a high note by making is review of "Is it College Yet?" available only on The Contrarian's Corner at http://www.the-wildone.com/essays/mq_essays/drriicy.html. Why, if you don't know Mike's work, do you care? Because he and Madame Kara Wild, Web-landlord of DVDaria, conspired to have me lay out the review in HTML with a tasteful number of banner links to DVDaria. Thanks, guys!

For those who don't know, Mike's reviews have garnered thousands of replies when posted to The Paperpusher's Site Message Board and alt.tv.daria. Each new one, released at some delayed time after each new episode airing, was an event. We got a very large bump in hits after the review was released, and that's a good thing.

To catch up on Mike's substantial, entertaining and informative oeuvre, check out any of the episode summaries at Martin J. Pollard's Daria-site extraordinare, Outpost Daria (http://www.outpost-daria.com/episode_guide.html).

+ It was only a mild heart attack

Last Sunday night/Monday morning, the petition host, PetitionOnline.com, went down for quite a long time. We held our breath...and then it came back on. We figure it was server maintenance. Whew! Stinks, not being able to control a major feature of one's online crusade...

+ Amazonscan one more time, but this time, it's fun

The dilemma for DVDaria has long been -- are we having an impact? Are the DVDs selling? How can we measure this? Billboard only lists the Top 20, and no one brags about midline product sales.

Well, after getting a new server and getting a few things straight, http://amazonscan.com seems to have it right...at least, tonight, they do. See for yourself -- I invite you to check out the "DVDaria Index."

After talking about Amazonscan on the PaperPusher's Site Message Boards (http://thepaperpusher.com), and giving the then-current Amazon ranking, someone asked whether this meant things were going well, or badly.

Good question. The best way I could think of was to compare IIFY?'s ranking to other, similar product. I picked two main types of DVD releases -- TV and/or feature-length animated releases, and other MTV DVD product.

Now, major caveat here -- Amazon.com is not the only online retailer. Again, I have nothing to do with or gain from them. Other vendors are selling the disc, too. However, they are the 900-pound gorilla of online retail content commerce, so their rankings probably mean _something_.

To start with, a bit of history...here's the Amazon rankings of IIFY? since I thought to start tracking it on Feb. 22. Gaps are due to site malfunctions at Amazonscan.com:

Why the wild variations? New product added, a rush of sales because we've been pimping DVDaria...in the end, who knows? People buy it, it goes up. does this translate to impressive sales for MTV/Paramount? Hope so.

Now, the comparison...here's the latest edition of the "DVDaria Index" as of about 2 a.m. this evening (no, I never sleep):"

Now, here's the fun, interactive, World-Wide-Weberverse (TM) angle: I'm giving you the username and password to the DVDaria index. Please be respectful of others with it -- no changing the pass or deleting everything, eh?

Username: Quinn1
Password: blushathon

With this, you can track IIFY? versus the rest of the list. You can also add any MTV product you know about on DVD (thinking of and finding any was rough, as MTV.com has taken down their online store), or any other appropriate animated titles, fitting the criteria.

One last word -- I've started an IIFY? thread on the front page of http://amazonscan.com ... please help me keep it on the front page. You don't have to register to chime in...in fact, don't register as Quinn1 if you do, okay? Don't want to look like the shills that we are. :-)

+ The Spanish pages

Aye, que lastima....I didn't do it yet. I needed to vote in the Paperpusher's Site's vote between which was better, IIFY? or IICY?. By the way, IIFY? won handily. Check out Current Episodes to see the voting, which will eventually be posted to http://www.the-wildone.com/dariabynumbers/ .

Kara, as ever, thanks for the space.

I won't see you in seven -- my family's taking a short but much-needed vacation. See you sometime next week.
