+ Viacom "Deep Throat" moves on, causes tizzy

Well, for me, at least...the human being who was so kind and made contact from within the wall at Viacom with DVDaria -- because of digging John Takis' "IIFY?" DVD review [scroll down], take a bow, John -- has moved on to greener pastures, and is no longer with the company.

Zoinks! What a bummer.

Well, it would be...but Deep Viacom was really cool and gave me the email of another person in a position to know what's up. I'm waiting to hear from that person, but I have high hopes.

The inside dirt is that -- as everywhere at Viacom, especially MTV, and in most of the US economy to boot -- there have been management shakeups and people losing, changing jobs. My contact was not one of them, getting to leave of one's own accord. The DVD-preparing unit is intact and still putting out product. IICY will very likely be one of those products. Series discs are under serious consideration.

Now is the time to keep the pressure up...find places to promote DVDaria if you would, and talk it up amongst the others who are like you -- Friends of Daria.

Those of you who know me know I like to read the message boards at http://f---edcompany.com . (I know some of you have tender sensibilities, so you'll have to fill in the blanks to make that URL work.) It's an illness, please don't think worse of me for it. I am not an animal! I'm a human being! (No, I don't have a registered nick.)

Apart from the really rancid message board, the Webmaster, pud, has developed a keen resource -- AmazonScan.com. You can use it to track how any product http://amazon.com sells ranks in the overall product listings. He created it to keep track of his new book about his site. I'm using it to track how Daria items are selling. It remembers one's own personal list of stuff to track and compares how the items are doing over time.

Here's what I got Friday:

As I write, the IIFY? DVD's sales rank is 1,261 -- so, it appears to be dropping, slowly. You'll recall that Adam Tyner found it was ranked 767 on about Feb. 12. Still, a fine showing, and much better than a lot of MTV DVD product. Our job is to get it back up.

Of course, Amazon is not the only DVD retailer out there, so what this really means, I don't know. But it is the biggest, and the closest thing I've been able to find to a barometer of how the DVD release is selling. Billboard only releases the top 20 sellers on its charts. If anyone has any ideas on how to learn more, let me know.

As I write, http://amazonscan.com is kinda wonky -- not all of the features are working. But it was okay on Friday, and I expect that it will get sorted out early this week.
