+ "Is it Fall Yet?" appears to have been released in DVD Region 0

Subject: IIFY DVD, something very interesting for uk peeps.
From: "Bettster" climpies@***nospam***.xxxxxxxxxx.co.uk

I've made an interesting discovery. My DVD of IIFY arrived today, and it would appear that it's a region 0 disk !

The disk is labeled region 1 as you'd expect. My dvd player is the type that you can set to a specific region, and I'd left it on region 2. Without thinking I put the daria disk in and it played ! I get the same result with my pc dvd drive set to region 2, so it looks like somebody at mtv has made a mistake somewhere.

Yeah, so it seems. Fr. Martin Sylvester of The Irony Maiden tested out his copy, and it appears that -- if one has a R2 DVD player and an NTSC-capable TV, you can watch the US, Region-1-labeled DVD.

"Bettster" later reported on alt.tv.daria that the darned thing works on equipment set for all _six_ DVD regions. Note that one must have a newer, non "fixed-scan" TV, that can deal with NTSC standard lines of resolution and 60 Hz sync electronically, and is not dependent on the 50 Hz cycle electrical current used in Europe.

Spreading this word is my new priority, and it all appears on the site at http://www.the-wildone.com/buy.html. Fr. Martin's much clearer explanation -- and list of places to buy the DVD outside the US, or at least in Europe -- can be found at http://www.sylvesternet.freeserve.co.uk/members/books/daria/r1dvdinuk.htm#R1

All you listmembers out there serving the non-US fans -- hi, Didier! -- please spread the word.

+ Kara Wild is very cool -- DVDaria without popups!

You may have noticed that the links to the site have a new URL. That's because Kara wild is indeed very cool, and is letting me squat on her server space, which until now hosted only her excellent fanfic, fanart and essay site, The Contrarian's Corner (http://www.the-wildone.com). So, update your bookmarks and any links in your sites (sorry) to: http://www.the-wildone.com/dvdaria/. Web designer of my heart, Aapo, advises that using this long URL, with the www but, will help search engines find the moved site.

My other Daria sites are also happily serving from Kara's space:

http://www.the-wildone.com/dariabynumbers/ -- What do Daria fans do while they wait for "Is it College Yet?" Dream up elaborate systems for comparing all 65 episodes against one another, in order to somehow come up with one that gets the most votes overall and is named "the best." Some with argue with the methodology, but it sure kept us off the streets and out of trouble. We still need to do the movies, so check http://thepaperpusher.com for when A.J. and I get it together and start up the final round.

http://www.the-wildone.com/dariacon/ -- What happens when seven Daria fans crawl out from behind their computers and decide to see "Is it College Yet?" together, in front of a big-screen TV, while eating pizza? Count the beards, glasses and candidates for Jenny Craig (myself first among them) here.

You have no idea the joy I felt changing the Geocities index.html page to forward to the new address. Boy, I hate popups. I mean, it was great to have Geocities' free hosting, and it nearly always worked, but I knew we were losing follow-through to the petition page and elsewhere because people don't want to put up with spam pages. Thanks again, Kara!

Enough. See you in seven, should there be more to say.
