Now it's time for the voting to decide the final 2 entrants into the second round of voting of the DBN.
The 13 leaders after 12am Sat. morning will be included automatically.
Here you may choose any 2 or 3 episodes whom you feel deserve a shot to be included in the voting for best ep ever, but failed to win any of the groups. These votes do not go towards the Perfect Season voting. The only episodes not eligible for this vote are the 13 group leaders. If you'd like to vote for something in the Cellar, go right ahead. Any ep you feel deserving. No explanations are necessary, if you just wish to vote and not explain your reason, there's no problem, if you wish to, that's ok, too. They may be from the same group, they can be from different groups, the only exclusions are listed above.
If you vote for an episode not currently leading a group, and it makes a miraculous final day comeback, it will have to be discounted. But you will get the opprotunity to replace it with another provided you do it by 1am ET Sun. morning, afterwards is too late.
The top 2 vote getters as of 1am ET Sun morning will be included in the second round of voting. (moved it back an hour as I'd intended to post this around midnight, and want to give you all a full 48 hours to vote here.)
My votes:
406- "I Loathe a Parade" Not only the start of the "Triangle" as it would be called, just a high quality episode with many hilarious moments, and deserves to be here.
512- "My Night At Daria's" How can you not include the "sex" episode. Not only was it moving, we get to see a side of OH that's never been seen, outright fear, of intimacy, plus the rumor mill around LHS and Jake's parasite fiasco make this an enjoyable episode all around.
413- "Dye!, Dye!, My Darling!" The kiss. The betrayal. The tension abounding. How couldn't you include this?
The "Perfect Season" of Daria will be announced as of 12am tomorrow night. The second round should begin on Monday, 1/14. Click the link for the process to be used for the second round of voting. Any questions post here or e-mail me.

203: "Quinn the Brain"
THE classic Quinn episode, and it gives us a really funny
look into how Quinn's circle of friends/followers saw Daria.
And Daria as Quinn is worth the price of admission in itself.
406: "I Loathe a Parade"
It's got everything. Not only is it the first Daria/Tom
shipper episode, but it's an ensemble episode and a damn
good one.
413: "Dye! Dye! My Darling"
The Kiss. Oh look. Daria really is human. Trent comforting
Jane. Helen comforting Daria (and not making a liar out
of Daria in Psycho Therapy"). Just everything. And the
ending works. The Lady or the Tiger indeed.
If one of the other three ends up in first, this is my alternate vote:
113: "The Misery Chick"
Still a wonderful episode. "I'm not miserable. I'm just not
like them.

I forget what I said about it the first time around---did I say anything the first time around?---but I see "The Old and the Beautiful" in the cellar and hardly think it deserves *that* bad a reputation.
Not that it's my favorite from that group, but anything that casts Daria as the Angel of Depression is worthy of a little attention.

My votes:
"I Don't." Because we meet Helen's family and the side characters, like Luhrman and the minister, are hilarious. Plus, I never thought "Cafe Disaffecto" was that great.
"The Teachings of Don Jake." It features many funny, revealing moments. "Pierce Me" is good, but not quite as good throughout its 3 acts.
"Too Cute." It probably has no chance, but I thought it was wonderfully savage, especially the parts with Dr. Shar and Brooke's nose collapsing in the end. Loved Quinn's lines: "And all the fat [from her upper lip] sank down to the bottom. Now she looks like one of those beer dogs on T.V."

Maybe you've explained this, but what happens in the second round? Do the top two vote-getters replace the current leaders?

Well, tactically, your vote for a cellar dwellar cannot undo your vote for an episode in first place. The first-place episode will have a lower percentage of votes cast in the group, but remain in first.
However, you could undo your vote for a first-place episode by voting for a second-place episode _that is only one vote behind_. This would of course create a tie...hrm...we haven't planned for that.
And the formatting would be a PITA.

The top 2 vote getters are included in the second round of voting, that's all. They don't take the place of anything in the group voting. The votes for these episodes are completely seperate from the group voting, they have their own seperate tallys. These votes only count to find out the 2 episodes which will be added as wildcards, along with the 13 group winners, those 15 episodes will go on to the second round.
Hope that helps, let me know if anything is still unclear.

204 - "I Don't"
(Almost) all of Clan Barksdale. The "Amy as savior" myth begins, and there's no overlooking that. Luhrman. Didn't get first-place vote the first time through because the dress gag burns out quickly (something I may be turning on its head in an upcoming fic...).
206 - "Monster"
"Just ignore them."
"You always say that... but they don't usually have a camera."
Lots of good lines. The name of my Daria site. Quinn at her shallowest, and it's still funny. The outcome of the strike the Jodie and company filmed was... amusing.
"If you can see any of my pores on camera, I swear I'll kill you. *Stop* the tape! I do *not* have pores! My pores are cute! My pores are *tiny!* You're fired!"
412 - "Fire!"
Didn't vote for it initially because I thought it was overshadowed by Don Jake and Pierce Me. Not voting for Don Jake because there's more than enough S1 eps involved in the final count already. ^_^

"Wildcard Weekend!"
Has something to do with this activity called "Pro Football." Fascinating coincidence.
I'm choosing four wildcards, with the understanding that A.J. can tell me to cut it back to three if necessary. Then, I'll chop one.
203 - Quinn, the Brain -- My favorite wildcard. Not having this one get honorably beat in the second round would be too damn bad.
206 - Monster -- Not the best episode, but it had: Daria/Jane collaboration without tragedy; Quinn getting taken down a peg and acting almost human, pre IIFY?. Hello, char-dev.
303 - Depth Takes a Holiday. Dammit.
513 - Boxing Daria. This should be leading the 13s, you know. Somebody, quick, vote for it.
Onward, into battle!
BTW, the Named Votes section of DBN will be repaired tonight.

Depth Takes A Holiday - Funniest episode they ever did, complete with a smile from Daria and an admission of the crush.
Boxing Daria - An insight into Daria's psyche as we see younger versions of the Morgendorffers. It also brought the series full circle with the psychologist scene.
Quinn the Brain - A solid episode worthwhile for the transformation at the end alone.

ARTS N' CRASS
The quintessential early-period Daria episode. All other early eps are but pale imitations of this. If I was introducing someone to the series and could only use two episodes, this would be one of them...
BOXING DARIA
... and this would be the other. Now we get some insight into *why* Daria is how she is (although this surely wasn't the only incident of the kind). Made me feel like *arguing* about _Daria_ again.

Yes. You can replace it with one other choice. Just let us know by 1am ET tonight.

Hope I haven't missed the deadline for this. I haven't been able to get online for a couple of days.
I vote for "Boxing Daria" and "Depth Takes a Holiday" and "The Teachings of Don Jake."
p.s. You have plans for dealing with the upcoming board nuke?

Message read 6pm 1/12/02.
Yep. The voting for the wildcards is until 1am tonight. As far as the nuke, after the wildcards are decided, the voting will cease until the board is up and operational, which should be Sunday night or Monday morning at the latest, and then the second round of voting will begin.

And here are my top three choices for the wildcard spot:
#406, "I Loathe a Parade". The episode which ultimately began the "love triangle" between Daria, Tom, & Jane. If I had not come to that episode after watching "Dye! Dye! My Darling!", then I would've been wondering more what Tom's final look back toward Daria meant. As it was, I was able to look at it and realize that it was ultimately an ominous sign of what was to come. It was also a fine episode even without the beginning signs of trouble, as we see Tad tell Sandi off good, and see the many mishaps that occur during the parade.
#413, "Dye! Dye! My Darling". As I said before, the first Daria episode I ever saw, and the inspiration for my first Daria fanfic. It's also a very dramatic episode, as it plausibly shows us a friendship tested to the breaking point by a guy, shows us how much Daria values Jane's friendship, and shows us that even a smart girl like Daria can allow a subconscious attraction & hormones to get the best of her.
#513, "Boxing Daria". A great way to end the regular season. We see how she developed her sarcastic, cynical personality in the first place; and we also Daria come to realize that she did at least as much torturing of her parents as her parents did of her. In other words, she realizes that she might have been wrong about her parents and admits it. It takes strength to admit when you're wrong.
All three episodes are great ones, but my first choice is "I Loathe a Parade", if only because there's more humor in it than "Dye! Dye! My Darling". However, D!D!MD is my second choice, and right behind it is "Boxing Daria".
