| 101 - Esteemsters |
Hard to beat the pristine nature of this episode.
| 102 - The Invitation |
Lollipop Jane. The fighting J's. And Daria was there to comment on it all. It could have been improved if they had settled on Brittany's voice by then.
| 103 - College Bored |
A really good episode, for all the reasons you [A.J.] listed.
My favorite line (paraphrased, I think) : Daria - "How come even in my daydreams everyone's a jerk?" |
| 104 - Cafe Disaffecto |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 105 - Malled |
An actual school episode that unfortunately shows Daria in a rather pathetic light.
| 106 - This Year's Model |
Daria solved the problem of the school's questionable ethics the way she should have solved it in "Fizz Ed".
| 107 - The Lab Brat |
What do you know, a real school assignment, with some really good lines.
| 108 - Pinch Sitter |
An almost-real situation handled in an inimitable Daria style.
| 109 - Too Cute |
Sisterly bonding, and a real problem with an almost-real resolution.
| 110 - The Big House |
Parents do stupid things for stupid reasons. Putting up with is takes fortitude.
| 111 - Road Worrier |
Great episode, with a scene good enough to make Daria smile.
| 112 - The Teachings of Don Jake |
Families bonding and not bonding, and a crisis averted by established
characterization.
| 113 - The Misery Chick |
Could only have been better if Daria ever showed some emotion.
| 201 - Arts 'N Crass" |
Also a #1 contender. Sic' her, Helen!
| 202 - The Daria Hunter |
Sic' them, Brittany! Sic' them Jane, for that matter. A perfect way to get out of a stupid school field trip, pity it didn't have a better pay off.
| 203 - Quinn the Brain |
A standout episode, if merely for the transformation scene at the end. I really liked the exchange between Quinn and Jane:
Quinn - "I really like how this is affecting Daria, but I'm starting to feel like a phony." Jane - "Starting?" |
| 204 - I Don't |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 205 - That was Then, This is Dumb |
I'd have to go with TWTTID as the best, for the Helen & Jake flashbacks, and the Daria and Trent scenes.
| 206 - Monster |
A really solid episode.
| 207 - The New Kid |
OH on a date? Is that what that was? It was cute, it was fun.
| 208 - Gifted |
Why isn't Daria in an academic situation at her own level? This is why.
| 209 - Ill |
A great, great episode. Angst, humor, pathos, the whole schmeer. We even get several shots of Daria in varing outfits, with and withour glasses.
| 210 - Fair Enough |
Cute situation. Would have been better if Daria and Jane did more than just react to it.
| 211 - See Jane Run |
A close second. Daria could have been more supportive, but it was nice to see Jane bask in the glory for a little bit.
| 212 - Pierce Me |
From the crush to parental concern, this was a
really great episode.
| 213 - Write Where It Hurts |
The blowup at Helen, Helen's attempts at reconciliation and eventual solution , and the winning story itself all push this one right to the top.
| 301 - Through A Lens Darkly |
"Daria. Looks good." And she did, and she was a martyr to principle, and Brittany made her feel better. A contender for the #1 slot.
| 302 - The Old And The Beautiful |
Nice to see Melody Powers again.
| 303 - Depth Takes A Holiday |
Line for line, the funniest and most original episode they've ever done. Favorite lines: Guy Fawkes Day - "Irish tosser!" St. Pat's Day - "English wanker!" Cupid - "Soccer riot!" Daria - "Where's Holiday Island?" Cupid - "We're supposed to say 'In your heart', but really it's through an interdimensional wormhole behind the Good Time Chinese Restaurant." Daria - "There's a Good Time Restaurant here, too?" Cupid - "It's a chain." Daria - "Who are all these kids?" Cupid - "A bunch of Saints Days. Who can keep track?" |
| 304 - Daria Dance Party |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 305 - The Lost Girls |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
306 - It Happened One Nut |
Well, we did get to see Daria smile, and the scenes with Trent were cute but it followed the sitcom formula too closely. (How come they didn't get new jobs?)
| 307 - Daria! |
Innovative use of the cartoon format, and some of the songs even offered insight into some of the characters. Beat Buffy to the punch by two years.
| 308 - Lane Miserables |
Lotsa Lanes, but Daria's reactions to the Trent thing and Jane's scenes with the Morgendorffers were great.
| 309 - Jake of Hearts |
The concerned angst was interesting, and the cheap deejays were kind of amusing.
| 310 - Speedtrapped |
Speedtrapped - Daria's insecurity about driving was done well, as was the sister's relationship. Satisfying episode with a satisfying ending.
| 311 - The Lawndale File |
A silly episode with some funny bits, particularly the lights from the woods.
| 312 - Just Add Water |
Daria slept through most of this episode. So
did everyone else.
| 313 - Jane's Addition |
Tragically, the multimedia project itself was one of the best parts of this episode.
| 401 - Partner's Complaint |
A good episode, but wasn't that stuff with Tom settled at the end of last season? Worth it just for "bionic" Brittany.
| 402 - Antisocial Climbers |
"I'm sorry my parents didn't stop at one child." That gives me an idea...
| 403 - A Tree Grows In Lawndale |
What a lousy episode. Not only was the entire town supposedly affected by the status of the high school football team, but for some reason Daria, Jane and Tom all showed up at a game? Please.
| 404 - Murder, She Snored |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 405 - The 'F' Word |
Jane's scenes and soul-searching....
| 406 - I Loathe A Parade |
Good episode, with a couple of technical flaws. How did Quinn get from the house to the float, complete with dress and hair-do, in fifteen minutes? Why didn't Daria notice the massive crowd (which formed in the same time frame) until after she left the store?
| 407 - Of Human Bonding |
Some cute moments.
| 408 - Psycho Therapy |
The Helen and Daria heart to heart was great, as was the role playing.
| 409 - Mart Of Darkness |
Hey Andrea had real lines, and she used them to let Daria and Jane know they have a rep for being grade-A bi***es.
| 410 - Legends Of The Mall |
Nice alter egos and the "funny story" joke was good, but this one was almost painful.
| 411 - Groped By An Angel |
Once again, Daria has to compromise her principles so Quinn can feel better. Funny how believing in angels was an exploration of spirituality, yet religion was never once mentioned.
| 412 - Fire! |
A lot of revelations in this ep, not the least
of which is that the Lanes can afford a big freaking house.
413 - Dye! Dye! My Darling |
Angst galore. Pity Jane wanted to wreck a really important friendship that way.
| MOVIE - Is it Fall Yet? |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 501 - Fizz Ed |
Sorry, Daria doesn't have a brain anymore, and neither do the writers.
| 502 - Sappy Anniversary |
Right. Season five equals brainless Daria.
| 503 - Fat Like Me |
An okay episode, but the idea wasn't pursued as well as it could have been.
| 504 - Camp Fear |
12345678912xxxxxxxxxxxx
| 505 - The Story of D |
TSOD, which removed Daria's brain from her head.
| 506 - Lucky Strike |
A ludicrous situation, but it had a good payoff.
| 507 - Art Burn |
Well, at least some of the other Lanes appeared again.
| 508 - One J at a Time |
Almost painful to watch.
| 509 - Life in the Past Lane |
Jane's dating someone who thinks he's interesting, unfortunately Daria's dating someone who doesn't know he's boring. The B p[lot could easily have placed this episode several notches up.
| 510 - Aunt Nauseam |
Nice to see the family.
| 511 - Prize Fighters |
Unspectacular. Daria should have known better and done better.
| 512 - My Night at Daria's |
A ham-handed treatment of teenaged sex, but tragically fairly
accurate.
| 513 - Boxing Daria |
A trip down psyche lane. Little Daria and Quinn were great, and it brought the series full circle.
