See rules post for any questions. Remember, you can catch up if you've misssed any of the votes so far. Here come the 07's

107- "The Lab Brat" Daria gets stuck with Kevin as a science lab partner, leaving Brittany with Upchuck, who blackmails her with some photos of her with their rival teams quarterback. Kevin spends the time in front of the TV as Jake is trying to bond with him, as Quinn is trying to hit on him, but knowing Kevin as we do fails to realize it. Rumors start spreading, Kevin is known to be with both Daria and Quinn, as usual kevin, replies with that dumb look "whoa, twins!" Brittany s jealous,so she taks the mouse from Daria's project, which she soon realizes and tricks Brittany into giving it back. Eventually Daria gets an A(duh!), Kevin a D, Upchuck and Brittany, an F.

Pretty good episode, got the introduction to Ms. Barch and her hatred of anything with a Y-chromosome, and the basis of a few fanfics with the insinuation of a real father in El Paso. One of the few episodes where Kevins cluelessness doesn't grate on you.

Some lines:

Jake: They didn't call it self love then, Kevin, they called it self abuse.

Jane: Maybe you can get a wid up toy to distract him.

Daria: His wind up toy is working with Upchuck.

And Daria's description to Ms. Barch that saved her grade after Brittany's sabotage attempt.

207- "The New Kid" Daria meets a home-schooled kid after she signs up to yearbook, Ted Dewitt-Clinton. His quirks interest her enough to get to know him better. They mstart getting closer together, they see each other more, though being the first for both, neither knows what to do and don't even realize they like each other that way. As time goes on, he actually dumps her for being shallow, now that's a putdown! At the urging of Helen and Jake, Quinn sets her up with Robert, the "Yes ma'am" guy, as you'd figure it's a total waste, both later reconsider, and go out to a video arcade, where Ted meets Robert and they get hooked on virtual reality swordplay, and completely forget Daria, so she goes home, gets no webpage software, it's given to Quinn, who gets some "hits" from Daria.

Ted, one of the evil twosome that was to breal up Daria-Trent, the other Monique. Anyone ever try a Ted-Monique shpper story?

Anyways, Ted is a dull character, at least to me with a voice almost as annoying as Val's. You'd figure they'd throw Trent in here somewhere but they don't, a waste for some real drama and possibly angst, that would've made for a great episode, but outside of DAria actually doing something, joining yearbook, this episode didn't sit too well with me.

Lines:
Ted: So, this is gum? I like it! Hey, Mom, Dad, gum! I got Gum!

Daria: You tried tobuy my influence with a date?

Quinn: That's the way we do it in America, Comrade.

307- Daria! The characters sing through an approaching hurricane. Daria and Jane get stuck on the roof with Kevin and Brittany. Trent and Jake go out ooking for them and crash the car into a tree. Daria and Jane take shelter in a water tank shack of the school roof. Eventually they get down(how isn't explained) and everyone is releived, and they can sing some more.

Don't let the above lame description fool you. I really liked this episode. All the songs were great, except one- "The Big Wet Rainstorm's Over", take away the music and you've got a damn fine plot idea. True everything wasn't explained in detail, but I can overlook that in this case. This episode is enjoyable anytime I pull it out and watch it. Fact: This was also the only episode run out of order from it's production number-307, yet it was the season 3 premiere, though TALD would've been a better opener, this is still a damn fine episode.

The songs
"Morning in the 'Burbs"- Morgendorffer family morning.

"If the Town Blew Away"- Lhs gym, fans, football players, faculty, Daria and Jane on the roof.

"Gah, Gah, Dammit!"- Jake's mad dash home after hearing of the hurricane.

"They Must Be Worried"- Daria, Jane, Kevin, Brittany in the water tank shed.

"Can't Leave Yet" Helen at work, and Quinn shopping.

"Manly"- Jake and his rant before going out to find Daria and Jane with Trent.

"The Big Wet Rainstorms Over"- Various characters.

407- "Of Human Bonding" A last minute call from Eric prevents Helen from going on a business outing with Jake, so Daria decides to go, partially to avoid Jane and Tom, and partially because the FC is having a sleepover.

Daria secretly admires her father as a hero, and he doesn't appear as clueless as usual regarding his eldest daughter. Jake is trying to drum up business for s firm at this convention, then meets Terry Barry Barlow, a franchising genius who saved a balloon expedition with his teeth. In an attempt to get closer, Jake offers to go ballooning, but is afraid of heights, eventually chickens out. Daria tells off Mr. Barlow, who leaves in a huff. The night before, Jake and Daria figure out their common bond is one that's unspoken at the dinner table as both read the newspaper. Jake ends up with a few bandages after crashing the balloon, Daria earns some respect for him, and they visit a museum of medical oddities at Daria's request.

The FC sleepover has Helen donning PJ's for a makeover, the FC arguing over who thought whoever was going out with whom and whatnot. Stacy finally got agressive, with a pillow, but we all ve to start somewhere. Tiffany got a rash from a bad facial mask, and Quinn and Sandi each have nightmaress about cutting their rivals hair off, and none get that much sleep.

Bonding? Where? Sure we got to find out how they feel about each other, but neither could put it in words when the time came for them to do so. Instead, we get the unspoken bond thing, a cop out really. Barlow joins Val, and Ted in the annoying guest Hall of Fame. He didn't do much, except help us see Jake's fear of heights firsthand. Arno the ballonist was funny, though as was some of the FC sleepover, but overall this episode was pretty lame, so much could've been done, but little was.

The line:

Arno: I am not a hoppy thing! I am a world class balloonist!

507- "Art Burn" After wrecking a gazebo while making a Mystik Spiral video, Wind comes out of nowhere with that being a naming gazebo, so Jane and Trent offer to get it rebuilt. Jane gets the job to pay for it, painting recreations of famous works of art, she ends up the best they've got and is soon very busy, too busy to do her own stuff. Hoping to get out of this easily, Jane tries to see of Gary is an art counterfeitor, which it turns out he's not obviously, so Jane eventually quits as she is burnt out on the copy job and would like to restart her own work.

Meanwhile Trent hires the contrators, who are the laziest bunch of @#$%$#!&@! in the world, when Trent tries to prod them along, he ends up joining them in a nap. Jane returns home, orders the gazebo rebuilt in 4 hours, volunteering Trent for manual labor. They get it up, only to find their parents wanted it torn down anyways, as the story they told Wind was just to keep him from changing his name to Ronald.

The FC wants to sue a charicature artist for an unflattering drawing, they obviously don't know what a charicature artist specializes in. After an uproar, ot ends up at Stacy's, with the friends forever at the top, and her with the only beautiful picture of the FC.

I thought at first the gazebo thing was a stepping stone to an episode about the Lane family history, after hearing about the naming gazebo story, it wasn't, but it should've been. It would've made for a better story.

This wasn't bad by any means, watching Jane transform from an art lover to someone doing it as work as a chore, almost getting sick of the whole thing, some more insight into her character, she's over the Tom thing, as their conversation at the Art fair seems to show. The 3rd act completely loses it as the partners in crime go on a forgery hunt. Dumb. The FC subplot had more interest. It had me guesing, what could possibly be in that drawing, it kept my interest throughout. Still a good episode, but not a great one.

Some lines:

Trent: Hello? Paramedics? Do you fix gazebos?

Jane: Use your womanly attributes and create a distraction.

Daria: I'll give birth.

Jane: That'll work.

My favorite: I have a feeling that my choice won't be in the majority thus far, 307- "Daria!"

Followed by: Lab Brat, Art Burn, Of Human Bonding, and lastly, the New Kid.

Thanks again for another thorough post, A.J.

Pretty decent episode, with some good lines. Including:

QUINN: God, it's like we're *already* going out.

I loved Daria's reinforcement explanation, clearly aimed at Helen. Also the Quinn-Brittany rivalry that, sadly, never lasted beyond "Fair Enough."

>207- "The New Kid" Daria meets a home-schooled kid after she signs up to yearbook, Ted Dewitt-Clinton.

I actually liked this episode. Ted had an annoying voice, but he was sweet and talented and truly seemed to like Daria. Change the voice and lose some of the naivite, and he would make a more ideal first boyfriend, IMO, than Tom. We got to see Daria act vulnerable and genuinely remorseful about the way she treated someone.

Furthermore, if it weren't for this episode, I would have a much more difficult time believing that Daria values what's on the *inside* than the outside. Between Trent the hottie and Tom the handsome young man, there's not much to dislike on the outside!

This episode kind of bothered me when I first saw it, and I think "Buffy" did the musical a *lot* better, but it was still creative and I liked several of the songs, especially "Morning in the Burbs." It would have been even better had the songs somehow *really* cut to the core and exposed people's inner thoughts: like Daria's feelings about Trent, Quinn openly singing about how she's tired of the Fashion Club, but she can't escape, Jane singing about strains in her relationship with Daria, Helen singing about feeling disatisfied... etc.

>407- "Of Human Bonding" A last minute call from Eric prevents Helen from going on a business outing with Jake, so Daria decides to go, partially to avoid Jane and Tom, and partially because the FC is having a sleepover.

Not a bad episode, but a real waste of several golden opportunities. This is Ann Berstein's weakest, without a doubt.

>Bonding? Where? Sure we got to find out how they feel about each other, but neither could put it in words when the time came for them to do so. Instead, we get the unspoken bond thing, a cop out really.

I felt the same way. Too much has been made about the sacred newspaper bond that Jake and Daria supposedly share (with Diane Long's "Connect Four" partially to blame), but I just don't see it. What Daria seems to feel for Jake, other than this admiration which never gets explained or examined, is sympathy bordering on pity. Her bond with Jake never *takes* her anywhere, whereas her bond with Helen helps her come to many important conclusions about herself.

Plus, this was another episode where Jake's self-absorbtion got in the way of all else. Daria went to the balloon site for him rather than, say, him giving up the balloon trip for her sake.

The Helen/F.C. plotline was less tedious, but again there was a major opportunity missed. How could an entire evening pass without the words "Quinn's cousin or something"?

>507- "Art Burn" After wrecking a gazebo while making a Mystik Spiral video, Wind comes out of nowhere with that being a naming gazebo, so Jane and Trent offer to get it rebuilt. Jane gets the job to pay for it, painting recreations of famous works of art, she ends up the best they've got and is soon very busy, too busy to do her own stuff.

A decent episode. It was nice to see something Jane-centric, but it lacked the humor and the moral dilemma of "See Jane Run." The F.C. plotline was funnier, and had a better resolution.

My votes:

1) Daria!
2) The New Kid
3) The Lab Brat
4) Of Human Bonding
5) Art Burn

>1) Daria!
>2) The New Kid
>3) The Lab Brat
>4) Of Human Bonding
>5) Art Burn

Here's mine:

1) Daria! - The songs were very good, particularly Jake's.

2) The Lab Brat - I agree that this was the only ep where Kevin's stupidity didn't make him seem to get in the way, and was funny.

3) The New Kid - Hmm--was Ted Daria's first *real* boyfriend? I mean "real" as in "actually-going-out-alone-with-and-having-a-good-time" boyfriend? Daria's relationship with guys whose names beginning with the letter "T" is interesting, to say the least...

4) Art Burn - Kara, Daria said "Phelps"! ;D Also, this was the first of *two* "Jane-Centric" eps in the final season. To me, the writers wanted to sort of "make up" to Jane about how everything turned out in Season Four, with her "losing" Tom to Daria, and looking lonely(?). They'd give her "Life In The Past Lane" also, throwing in Nathan as well, and telling us that she's long past what happened in the Triangle. Curiously, the FC's subplots in both of these eps were much better...

5) Of Human Bonding - Flat, flat flat. Enough said. Thanks.

Don't be so sure, A.J. I love 'Daria!'.

My favorite: 'Daria!' because it's so darn fun (and fun_ny_).

Then Lab Brat, the a tie with Of Human Bonding and Art Burn, and lastly New Kid.

107: "The Lab Brat"

The Lab Brat is odd, because it's a fairly entertaining episode,
but it specifically stands out to me as an episode that's only
barely on-canon. There're so many directions this episode
pointed them that they DIDN'T go in:

--Quinn's obsession with Kevin is not something she'd ever do again.
(Contrast it with the way she treats guys in the rest of the series,
and the genuine feelings she has for David in IIFY.)

--The Quinn/Brittany conflict, touched on again in "Fair Enough"
but never mentioned again.

--The Daria/Brittany conflict, carried over from the pilot and
then dropped completely.

In fact, this episode probably has more in common with "Sealed
With a Kick" than any full length episode. (It's probably a
reworking.)

Still, it's pretty fun. Jake is pretty cool.

207: "The New Kid"

Not bad. Not great. Ted is nice enough, and Daria's reaction to
being courted for real (as opposed to her interactions with Trent,
and later Tom, and the odd pass she endures) is interesting.

The DeWitt-Clintons are just too over the top for words, though.

Quinn's "That's how we do it in America, Comrade" line is funny,
but it's another ep. where the ending is tacked on to fit the
series format. Mrs. Barch beats up Mr. DeMartino. Ha ha.

307: "Daria!"

I like the musical. I'm reminded of similar experiments, like
the backward episode of "Seinfeld," "News Radio in Space," and
the "Dreams" episode of "M*A*S*H*." You sacrifice some of the
plot for the concept, but if the concept is well-executed and
the plot well done, the result is usually entertaining. I think
they did a good job. Some of the songs are hysterical ("Gah
Gah Dammit! being a personal fave) and there's some strong
characterization hidden in there.

Some of the stuff was lame, like Jake and Trent crashing right
after going to look for the girls, but on the whole I thought it
was good.

407: "Of Human Bonding"

I liked it more than a lot of people did, but then I'm a fan of
Jake, so seeing him get that much screen time is always nice. Andrew
Landon didn't come off so good, but it was nice to see that Michelle
can get along with at least one Morgendorffer. Terry Barry Barlow
was lame, but not as lame as Val.

Helen's interactions with the Fashion Club were also entertaining.

Quinn "Oh, dear God, not the ones with the bumblebees."

The dream sequence was funny, too, and gave us a nice glimpse into
the Quinn/Sandi dynamic. And then there was the morning after...

507: "Art Burn"

The best thing about this episode was the ending, with Stacy
opening the door of her closet to reveal the caricature that the
other three Fashion Clubbers hated. The main plotline was pretty
lame, though Trent trying to deal with the contractors was cool,
and the Spiral had another appearance.

Max: Existential? I thought you said nihilistic!

No real clunckers here, but nothing really exciting. What I'd like
to do is take my 7 vote and give it to I Loathe a Parade, but
since I can't, I'll go "Daria!" followed by "The Lab Brat,"
"Of Human Bonding," "Art Burn," and "The New Kid."

Well, this is tougher all around. None of these are particularly my favorites, but some have some strong points.

>107- "The Lab Brat"

An all-right episode, solidifying the "Kevin is an idiot" bit.

>207- "The New Kid"

A lotta fun, but weakens some towards the end. Besides, Barch did beat up DeMartino...

>307- Daria!

There's a lotta dislike for this episode around these parts, but I'm fonder of it than most. Although the premise does raise the possibility that, after this episode, at any moment, any of the characters might break out in song...

>407- "Of Human Bonding"

The "Daria and Jake" part was lesser, but the "Fashion Club and Helen" part more than made up for it. (Besides, I got a fanfic idea from it.)

>507- "Art Burn"

Pretty good. And we get to meet up with some of the Wandering Lanes again...

Tough to rank, but I'm gonna have to go with

407 "Of Human Bonding"

followed by

507 "Art Burn"

with, in order

107 "The Lab Brat"
207 "The New Kid"
307 "Daria!"

following it up. The last three are tight and the order could easily be reversed. (I changed my mind about the order of the first two as I posted.)

I can see her feeling jealous over Quinn, especially when she came out in the TV room with that red miniskirt, but to someone as much of a fixture of the social circles of Lawndale High like Brittany, Daria's just "a brain," and therefore would never have a chance of taking "Kevvy" away from her. Anyway, I always thought THIS was the first episode where we learn of Jake's miserable formative years.

Care to give a hint as to which one this is? I've got some ideas on Janet's background that I'm playing with myself. Not that this'll change anything for me.

An old skill from Highland that she uses in Lawndale. Nothing wrong with that. But I didn't hate Ted as much as you did, because he wasn't as much of a bastard as Val, Romonica DeGregory, Claude(or is it "Cloud"?), Terry Berry-Barlow, Wally the Vexxer Salesman, or Leonard Lamm. And I'm kind of glad they didn't give Ted and Trent a Jon Cryer vs. Andrew McCarthy 4 Molly Ringwald scenario.

Trent's art was threatened in this episode too, not just Jane's. Mystik Spiral was just starting to get good towards the end of Season 4, and then all of the sudden we see them fall apart over a sitar in "Camp Fear"(#504), and here both a failed music video and in Trent's case, manual labor. And I still say they should've taken advantage of Vincent & Amanda's lack of need for the gazebo by staging another collapse, if not then at least put the thing up for sale. For this reason it was as scary as "I Loathe a Parade"(#406) was in the beginning for me.

Well, since they're mostly marginal episodes, I haven't decided yet.

I'd rank them in this order...

#1: Daria!
Maybe I like this one so much because I haven't actually seen alot of the musical (and other gimmicky) episodes offered up by other shows, so the idea actually seemed fresh to me. And the lyrics and some of the accompanying visuals (like Quinn's reflection singing back to her) had me laughing many, many times.

#2: Of Human Bonding
I think you get as much father-daughter bonding here as you can expect given Daria's reserve and Jake's cluelessness. It's as much about what they can't communicate as it is about what they can. Plus Quinn's sleepover scenes were hysterical. I might rank this #1 except that the Barlow character was as flat as Arno was colorful.

#3: The Lab Brat
Kevin and Brittaney are best taken in small doses. And I was never crazy about Barch (except when she is played against Upchuck). Still funny and clever though.

#4: Art Burn
The resolution of the gazeebo story line (and most of the jokes along the way) could be seen coming miles away. But as usual, Jane's character is "like something from a cooler universe". Good episode, but not stellar.

#5: The New Kid
Shrill voice acting and a dumb virual reality scene, and the budding relationship is broken up in a highly convenient and unbelievable way. Too bad, because there was alot to like here as far as Daria's ethics and her reaction to Ted are concerned.

Here we go:

107 - an alright ep. Haven't watched it in a while - like I said earlier, I rarely get out my Season 1 tape.
207 - haven't seen it.
307 - probably the best of the lot. Yes, Buffy did the musical thing better, but this is pretty darn good. "Down on your knees and begin to pray/That the town blows away..."
407 - eh.
507 - couldn't even remember what ep this was trying to think through them. It obviously didn't leave that big an impression on me.

107 & 207: Haven't seen.

307: I LOVE this episode. It helps that I am a big fan of musicals in general. They managed to keep what I like about Daria and incorporate it into the musical genre. Something unexpected that, I think, worked.

407: Snore!

507: A good plot idea, but didn't seem to fare as well as it could have. I do enjoy a good Jane-centric episode though, and this was a fair way to spend half an hour.

#7: The Lab Brat, The New Kid, Daria!, Of Human Bonding, Art Burn

WINNER: #207, The New Kid

Ted was a great character, one I wish I’d seen more of. He found the perfect counter to Daria’s sarcasm without even realizing it – total, complete naiveté. And it was great to see her in a dating situation, or close to it.

Loser: None

None of the others was bad enough to be called a loser.

Current vote tallies:

D! -9

I'm honestly surprised, that D! would be so far out in front.

For those who haven't seen them, the basic rules for this voting have been posted on the announcements forum.

>107- "The Lab Brat"

Okay...what didn't Kevin see in Quinn? Every other guy is gaga over her.

I found it funny that Kevin would bond with Jake, er, Jake's cable, at least. I can't imagine why they haven't thought up a real Pigskin Channel, yet.

Am I mistaken, or is this the first and last time we see Brittany with enough brains to do something malicious, even if it is stealing Daria's mouse?

And why didn't Kevin kill Upchuck for peeping on Brittany, even if she was fooling around with another QB? Ever hear of defending a lady's honor, even if it is suspect?

Another Season One experience.

>207- "The New Kid"

Sure, pick on the homeschoolers. Trust me, folks, they aren't all like Ted. Sure, enough of them are to create a stereotype, but really, many of them do chew gum and even leave the house unsupervised on occasion. Minus many points for the cheap shot.

Watching Daria flounder in her first attempt at dating was painfully familiar, but makes perfect sense. It's like Quinn's first attempt at reading a book without pictures -- it isn't going to go smoothly the first time. Clearly, this isn't a lady obsessed about what people think about her, if her first attempt is with dorky Ted. In the end, Daria learned a lesson: Romance is the bunk. Notice that she followed the same pattern with Tom...EVERYONE knew she was carrying a Statue-of-Liberty-sized torch for him, even Trent...except her.

And in the end, Daria WAS shallow.

A.J.> Ted, one of the evil twosome that was to breal up Daria-Trent, the other Monique. Anyone ever try a Ted-Monique shpper story?

<Ren>You sick little monkey!</Ren>
>
In all, a nice Season Two "what if" story, as in, what if Daria noticed boys her age existed. I'd have liked it more without Ted and what he stands for.

>307- Daria!

"I got a Big Wheel rollin' in my heart..."
"I really don't know what that's supposed to mean..."

This is no ordinary musical, certainly. First of all, I'm impressed that they wrote that many songs, even if some of them stink. But the whole exercise is redeemed by "Can't Leave Yet" and the interplay between Helen and Quinn. I almost teared up, I'm not kidding. Another of those moments that sets Daria apart.

The dance sequence in "Manly", where Helen and Quinn hop over Jake and Trent...priceless.

What did we learn from "Daria!"?

1. That the writers are happy to screw with your little head. And do it well.

2. That Tracy Grandstaff cannot sing. I hope they gave her danger pay.

3. That making cartoon characters dance is not as easy as it seems. I bet the inbetweeners developed real respect for Walt Disney Studios and the guys at Warner Brothers.

Beaucoup extra points for balls. They didn't do it first, but they did it, dammit, and it didn't suck.

>407- "Of Human Bonding"

Chuck this on the "missed opportunities" pile. It probably was too much to expect Daria and Jake to get real, but I would have liked to see that more than a balloon accident. This smells like someone's good idea that got destroyed in the story meeting.

Okay, so I guess there was a message in there about integrity, and not letting people get you to do stupid things for their own ends. And?

Even the kicker joke stinks. Imaging blowing off the series because of this stinker, only to miss Fire! and Dye, Dye, my Darling?

>507- "Art Burn"

The whole point of this episode is, "Don't hack out the same tired crap just to get paid." And then they ended the series. Coincidence?

The sucky Jane-centric episode. Pity. Going by the surprize ending, we would have been better served by a Stacy-centric episode.

Well, Ted's character killed The New Kid, but it's not as bad as Of Human Bonding...The Lab Brat was wacky enough...Art Burn moved me not.

Daria!, Lab Brat, Art Burn, The New Kid, Of Human Bonding.

Favorite: Daria! - Innovative use of the cartoon format, and some of the songs even offered insight into some of the characters. Beat Buffy to the punch by two years.

Runners-up

The New Kid - OH on a date? Is that what that was? It was cute, it was fun.

The Lab Brat - What do you know, a real school assignment, with some really good lines.

Of Human Bonding - Some cute moments.

Art Burn - Well, at least some of the other Lanes appeared again.

This set is almost as hard to choose from as the 05s, but for the opposite reason: with one exception, I really like each of these episodes.

So after much deliberation, I vote for The New Kid. It was interesting to see Daria react to a new person, especially once it turned out she actually liked him, and I'm still kind of disappointed that he didn't stick around. He wouldn't have made a good boyfriend for Daria because he was utterly unfamiliar with the world Daria loathes, but it would have been cool to see him as a supporting character in future episodes. The whole yearbook part was handled totally unrealisticly, but it's still interesting because it proves that even in the early seasons Daria was willing to interact with other human beings on occasion. (In the first 2 seasons this usually required a bribe, but all the same, it happened.)

Also, the Ted situation was sort of the flip side of "See Jane Run" and "Jane's Addition" (although TNK took place before either): Daria found a guy and hung out with him instead of Jane. We don't see very much of Jane's perspective in this ep, but it looks like she's being supportive instead of possessive and b****y, which is yet another reason to like Jane. And Daria's date with Robert, courtesy of Quinn, was hilarious.

ranking the others:

Art Burn -- Where'd Wind come from, and if he lives nearby, where's he been? And why didn't Jane and Trent hit him up for money? This episode is an excellent meta-commentary about refusing to churn out crap just to make money. Mr. Taylor's comments on Jane's work were worth hearing: she had delusions of grandeur about her job as a hack, but even someone who decorates with parts of dead animals was fairly unimpressed. Between this episode and IIFY? Jane's certainly had the wind taken out of her artistic sails, and I wonder what she'll do next. If we're lucky, IICY will answer some of the questions. Oh yeah, we also got to see Daria, Jane, and Tom all in the same place at the same time, and no one got killed, so that's another good point. A strong episode that involves actual character development, but not as many funny moments as TNK.

Daria! -- I liked it at the time, but a month later the songs were STILL stuck in my head, and that kind of soured me on the episode. I've since forgiven "Daria!" and in fact, I watch it every time I'm home sick (which is about twice a year).

The Lab Brat -- as other have said, this episodes sets up a lot of stuff that never continues past the 22 minutes (rivalries, male bonding, fuzzy spots on family trees). Quinn's attempts to seduce Kevin were painful to watch, as was the Upchuck/Brittney storyline. The conclusion was excellent.

Of Human Bonding -- mostly, all the charicatures were over the top. Terry Bary Barlow was too pretentious, Jake too clueless, Helen trying too hard to be hip, and so on. Generally not memorable.

My Votes for Daria x07 episodes.

107=The Lab Brat. What's cool about this? Brittany thinks both Daria and Quinn are sexual threats, but Daria is merely an intellectual threat, and nowadays we see that Quinn is one too.

207=The New Kid. Ted DeWitt-Clinton: Daria's intellectual equal or superior, and social opposite...and he loves her. Despite the ending

307=Daria! Now I have to admit I'm not into musicals, even if they try to be funny, which was why I didn't like "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut," as much as "Beavis and Butt-head Do America," though I didn't hate either of them. Okay, it was fun. It had some laughs, it brought a few tears to my eyes, and and despite the Speed Racer reference in the beginning, I still didn't like "Gah! Gah Dammit!"

407=Of Human Bonding. Well, you've all read what I've had to say about this episode, but what you probably don't know is that I don't hate it as much as the rest of you. Had it not been for the general quality of Season 5, I might've rated it higher.

507=Art Burn. One of those episodes that focuses on Jane's artistic ambitions being put at risk, with the addition of a B-story of Trent's music facing the same fate. And Trent clearly sees the error of Jane's ways. Even though she's making money off of her art, he's maintaining the integrity of his.

So in the following order:

1)The New Kid(#207).
2)The Lab Brat(#107).
3)Daria!(#307).
4)Art Burn(#507).
5)Of Human Bonding(#407).

Now for the 07's. I didn't see "The Lab Rat" or "The New Kid", so I can't vote for them. Instead, my vote's going for "Daria!" Why? Two reasons. One, I like musicals, so a musical Daria episode is definitely intriguing. Second, I loved seeing Jake's "Gah-gah-damnit!" song, with the beginning parody of Speed Racer.

Second would be "Art Burn". I loved seeing what Stacy did with the caricature.

Last would be "Of Human Bonding". It definitely wasn't bad, but it wasn't as interesting as the other two episodes I saw.
