Despite the title, this is not a contest meant to celebrate the worst of fanfiction. While fanfics universally regarded as "bad" would qualify, they should not receive more attention than they deserve. Rather, this is a contest that even widely acknowledged "good" fanfics could qualify for, provided they managed to be good in spite of (or because of) their excesses.
The point of this contest is to serve as an antedote to fanfiction ranking and attempts to crown the "best" work. If you get nominated for a CRAPPIE category, you can enjoy a bit of notoriety and have some fun, and if you aren't, you can breathe a quiet sigh of relief. Nobody loses... unless you win.
Overall, the CRAPPIES are not meant to skewer fanfic authors, but to gentle-roast them, like at celebrity roasts that poke fun at the guest of honor's foibles. I hope they can forgive us.
