Happy Dough

Full Name: Happy Dough, creation of Amy Barksdale
Current Age: Best left to rise overnight.
First Appearance in Abruptly Amy : "A New Beginning"
Catchphrase:
None. Has less to say than Andrea did in Daria.

This miraculous dough was discovered quite by accident, when Amy was anxious to bake something that would win over her mother and Rita.  She
added some cloves, and BAMMMM!  Suddenly she had dough that, when digested, made people feel better than if they'd taken designer drugs.  This dough
became an instant sensation both in Rutherford and worldwide.  However, it was not without its drawbacks: Amy quickly became worried about its drug-like effects on the townspeople, and the way it was turning Ruth into a greedy businesswoman.  Finally things came to a head when, at the county bakeoff, a scientist employed by Big Harv denounced the dough as being spiked.  This caused the other bakeoff contestants to turn violently against Amy and Andrea, and only after Amy rescued the town from mobsters did she win back their good graces.  Since "A New Beginning," the happy dough has rarely been mentioned, and it's assumed that the Barksdales don't wish to rekindle the controversy.  But still, one never knows when it might reappear... (It is rumored it will play a staring role in "Crouching Lawyer, Hidden Agenda").

Boris and Natasia

The cast of Abruptly Amy had a rare chance to "hang-out" with some classic cartoon characters at the cast party following the completion of "Windy City Walkabout". These "old-timers" demonstrate the remarkable strength they still to this day possess in the illustration below.

"You modern toons", Boris Badenough jested, "complain about your working conditions! We used to get crushed, blown-up or burned in every episode!"

"It's amazing, the stamina these old characters show in those cartoons" Amy quipped. "And to think they worked for actors scale!"

This comment upset both Boris and Natasia, since they are still fighting in court for compensation for the later syndication of their work.

Also in litigation is Alan Smithee's use of these characters. Disney, who now owns Rocky and Bullwinkle and other Jay Ward's creations, issued a "cease and desist" order to Alan over their unauthorized use in "Windy City Walkabout". Alan claims he received permission directly from Jay Ward himself, at a séance, where a medium put him in direct contact with his spirit. The judge lifted the restraining order while this claim is being investigated.

Placeholder

Yup. Placeholder is the image on the left. Believe it or not (and this I got from reliable sources) this "character" was placed on the storyboard and comps while the design team worked on the actual character. Alan Smithee, under pressure to get back on schedule and budget with the production of A.A, took it upon himself to ship these materials to a Korean animation company (used to produce the actual cartoon) without consulting the art department first. Before the mistake was discovered, the Korean animators had pitted Amy against this character for about half of one of the final first season episodes!

The mistake was a costly one. That entire episode had to be redone, at Alan Smithee Productions expense. I was told that Alan plans to try and sneak the footage into another episode, using some lame plotline about the character being dipped in acid, or having come from and alien race of stick figures.

Good luck with that one, Alan.
