Jesse Moreno made his first appearance in Daria: "Road
Worrier."  He played rhythm guitar in the band, Mystik Spiral, and quickly became a potential romantic match for Jane Lane.  Yet as the series progressed, Jesse's vapidness became more evident...and more of a turn-off.  Apparently the Abruptly Amy writers decided to do something about this when they set him up for an appearance on "Hot Head, Cold Fetus": instead of a musician, they made him a college student.  The implied addition of IQ points did little to help Jesse, however: he had sex with Andrea and ended up bolting when he learned she was "pregnant."
