Prior to being on Abruptly Amy, Andrea made several appearances on the parent show, Daria. Her role was usually to hover in the background of every episode, not speaking, while Daria and Jane occupied the foreground. However, every so often Andrea did get in a memorable line. In "Cafe Disaffecto," she read a visceral poem where she compared someone's body to a "rotting bag of flesh." In "Mart of Darkness," she spoke to Daria and Jane for the first time, challenging them to criticize her for being a Goth who worked in a warehouse store. Andrea first appeared in Abruptly Amy: "A New Beginning", as a runaway who rescued Amy in an alley from a gang of thugs. Amy showed her gratitude by adopting Andrea via the phone, much to Andrea's horror. Since then, we have seen signs that Andrea is growing fond of her new family. On Abruptly Amy, Andrea's basic character has remained the
same: an anti-social Goth interested in the occult. However, her
personality has become more impish and aggressive. In response to
any of Amy's self-righteous and often misguided statements, she has a
barbed quip prepared. She also frequently gets into trouble with her
reckless behavior, such as when she cuts class to find Corona ("Corona,
Corona"), goes drinking with a questionable friend ("Raiding the Bar"),
has sex with Jesse Moreno ("Hot Head, Cold Fetus"), or tangles with a
marshmallow man ("A Very Amy Christmas"). All the more ironic is the
fact that Andrea's parents are missionaries who traveled with her around
Europe, spreading the
